Hotels in Fayetteville with at least 40 guest rooms will now be able to sell beer and wine for on-site consumption, following approval of an ordinance amendment by the City Council Thursday night. The 5-0 vote came after local businesses asked for the rule change in order to provide that service to their guests and be competitive with hotels in nearby jurisdictions like Peachtree City. Economic Development Director Brian Wismer explained that the hotels would still be subject to the same licensing and staff training requirements as other retail alcohol sellers, and the beverages would be sold in pre-packaged containers from the lobby area.

The same ordinance amendment also creates a separate regulation category for event centers that sell alcohol, now allowing them to apply for licenses to sell distilled spirits as part of their on-site catering in addition to the already permitted beer and wine. Previously, only outside caterers were allowed to provide distilled spirits at such centers.
