A long-standing problem in DeKalb County is moving a little bit closer to a solution. In an effort to improve sewer service throughout the county, the Tilly Mill Sewer Replacement Project, which will include installation of new, larger sewer lines, is set to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 15, according to a press release.

Contractors have begun assessing and preparing the impacted areas. More than 4,500 feet of existing 14- and18-inch sewer lines will be upgraded to 24-inch lines.

Back in October, DeKalb County laid plans to use hundreds of millions of dollars in loans to install new sewer tanks and replace, repair and build nearly 60 miles of large sewer lines.

The Tilly Mill Sewer Replacement Project is part of DeKalb County’s $1.345 billion capital improvement program. During a town hall meeting, CEO Michael Thurmond said the project will create nearly 1,900 jobs from 2021 through 2026 and will lay the foundation for long-term growth and development in the area.
