Dunwoody is considering a $1.6 million project to install a multi-use trail between two busy residential roads that currently lack sidewalks.
The unnamed path, which would run along Peeler Road between Windwood Hollow Park and Winters Chapel Road, was proposed by the Dunwoody Public Works department. The city is gathering resident feedback via an online survey that closes March 18.
The path, which could be used for walking and cycling, would be separated from the roadway by a landscaped buffer, according to a news release. The path itself would be a 12-foot-wide concrete slab.
It would run along the northern side of Peeler Road, connecting the park to nearby neighborhoods. It’ll also allow pedestrian access to the restaurants and businesses off Winters Chapel Road, which is about half a mile away from the park. The north side of Peeler Road doesn’t have a sidewalk, while the south side does.
This project would join several other pathway projects that are currently under development. Three miles of multi-use trails are in the works, which would double the city’s path footprint when completed.
“This is part of a larger system of paths that would eventually connect to Brook Run Park and the Winters Chapel Multiuse Path, which is beginning construction this year,” Michael Smith, the director of Dunwoody Public Works, said in the release.
The Peeler Road path project would be funded through the city’s special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST). More details and access to the public survey can be found at dunwoodyga.gov/government/projects/public-works/peeler-road-shared-use-path.
