The Smyrna 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony is scheduled for 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Sept. 11 at the Twentieth Century Veterans Memorial, 2800 King St. SE, Smyrna.

“This Smyrna 9/11 ceremony is coming together to honor the men and women who gave their lives in the tragic attacks of 2001,” said Thomas Bates, EMS Director / Training Division – Smyrna Fire Department in an email statement.

“Members of public safety, city administration and citizens will be coming together to remember the lives of our fallen heroes,” he added.

Starting at 8:30 a.m., the ceremony will open with the audience rise for the presentation of colors from the Smyrna Fire and Police Honor Guards.

Smyrna Police Chief Keith Zgonc and Fire Chief Roy Acree will say a few words followed by descending sirens.

A representative from the Mayor and Council also will make a few comments.

Once all speeches are concluded, one Fire Department Honor Guard and one Police Department Honor Guard will approach the memorial wreath and move it to its posting spot in front of City Hall to conclude the ceremony.
