The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing on the fiscal year 2022 budget during its Sept. 21 meeting.

No one spoke for or against it.

The millage rate was set in July and the budget reflects how the money will be spent, according to a press release. The proposed budget includes the Board of Commissioners’ commitment last year of a 5 percent increase for public safety to bring salaries in line with neighboring jurisdictions, as well as a 4 percent cost-of-living increase for other county employees. The budget also includes paying off the Series A RRDA bonds early that will save the county more than $400,000.

The Board is expected to approve the budget at its Oct. 5 meeting.
