For many, the coronavirus pandemic has caused or increased economic hardship. Being out of work because of illness, shutdowns or caring for vulnerable family members has increased monetary strain in vulnerable communities. Action Ministries is a Georgia nonprofit that works within communities to address the challenges of poverty by delivering meals, housing and educational resources.

“Action Ministries serves more than 40,000 households each year, most of which are our most vulnerable citizens. They have, unfortunately, been hit the hardest in the wake of the pandemic,” said Shakura Conoly, the chief community engagement officer of Action Ministries. “It is important that we continue to fill this gap, especially now, as it is widening.”

The pandemic has affected Action Ministries’ funding, so, now more than ever, donations are very appreciated.

Through programs like Smart Lunch, Smart Kid, which served more than 300 children in June, and Archway Housing, which helps to identify affordable housing solutions for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, Action Ministries is working to make sure every member of the community has their needs met.

“We believe every person has sacred value and dignity and is therefore worthy of respect, compassion, and a seat at any table. Our work, in partnership with hundreds of organizations across Georgia, provides food to eat and the safety of shelter — the very basic needs of humans,” said Conoly.

If you are involved in or know of an organization working to bring relief to the Atlanta community during the coronavirus pandemic OR you are with an organization with supplies that you don’t know where to donate, please email us at Shannon.n.Dominy@gmail.com.
