Zoo Atlanta will be blue April 19, but that’s a good thing.
Zoos Go Blue is a partnership between Autism Speaks and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums to support Autism Awareness Month.
This Sunday, Zoo Atlanta will open at 8 a.m. for families with children or individuals affected by autism, giving them an opportunity to experience the zoo without the crowds. The public will be allowed in at 9:30.
For those arriving arriving early, the zoo offers activities that will focus on color, shape and sensory exploration designed for calming stimulation and fun.
These activities and programs will available to everyone throughout the day. The zoo also will provide two "quiet zones," where it will be darker and very quiet, for anyone who needs to take a break during the day.
Volunteers from Georgia Autism Speaks will be on hand to answer any questions and to assist families, if needed.
Advance tickets are required for Zoos Go Blue. For prices and to order, click here.
Zoo Atlanta has put together a social story to prepare children and individuals with autism for their outing. It includes a Zoo Atlanta map, tips for what to expect, zoo rules and more.
