A Seattle startup called SwanLuv will offer loans up to $10,000 to select couples about to get married.
If the pair stay together, the loan never has to be paid back. But if the couple divorce, the loan must be repaid, with interest.
According to GeekWire, SwanLuv CEO Scott Avy says that while he hopes no couples get divorced, statistics suggest otherwise. He's confident that enough couples who receive the loan will eventually break up and make the company profitable over time.
The company plans on making marriage counseling available to the chosen couples.
Editor's note: In Feb. 2016, the company announced it was abandoning the loan concept and switching to a crowdfunding platform.
