Testing your green thumb? This is the flower Georgians are searching for the most

In a year when a pandemic has rendered populations home bound, people have looked to at-home hobbies like cooking, sewing and gardening.

And while more folks test out their green thumbs, they have also been doing some Googling.

In a new report, the gardening company Breck's analyzed the most popular flower in each state, using Google Trends.

The report is based on search data in each state from March to May.

Here in Georgia, gardenias took the prize for the most searched for flower, which tracks since the flower is a staple of Southern gardens.

"The gardenia is a sort of Southern aristocrat. Its fragrance expresses the true grace of the South," horticulturist Mike Sikes previously told the AJC.

“As a ‘stabilizing force’, flower gardening is helping people all over the world form healthy routines and feel grounded this summer while social distancing,” the Beck’s report reads. “Both new and seasoned gardeners are using online search to see how they can grow their current gardens or build one for the first time.”

Gardenias aren’t the only flower Georgians are searching for. Over the last year (from May 2019-May 2020), the most searched for flower in Georgia was camellias.

The most popular flower nationwide were sunflowers.
