Some gifts incite jumps for joy while others have dissatisfied gift recipients searching for receipts.
But thanks to the following retailers, returning unwanted items and finding something better doesn't have to be a hassle.
Amazon
Amazon has a special holiday return policy: "Items shipped by Amazon.com between November 1, 2015 and December 31, 2015, may be returned until January 31, 2016, for a full refund, subject to our other return guidelines," the site says. "Items shipped from sellers other than Amazon.com are subject to this same holiday return policy unless otherwise stated in the seller's individual Return Policy."
Express
While most stores maintain a 30 day return policy, Express allows returns and exchanges for up to 90 days as long as shoppers don't remove obvious tags that say "Do Not Remove" or "Keep This Tag Attached." If you don't have a receipt, store employees will conduct a courtesy search in its database, according to ABC. Another convenient policy allows some gift recipients to choose whether they want to receive a gift card to the retailer worth the price of unwanted items or to refund the amount to gift buyers' accounts.
Costco
Costco has previously allowed returns on items with some exceptions. Most electronics can be returned up to 90 days after purchase.
Zappos
Zappos maintains one of the longest windows for unsatisfied customers to return or exchange items. A full refund is issued for unworn items with original packaging within 365 days of purchase.
Nordstrom
Nordstrom doesn't have concrete return guidelines. Their policy states: "We don't actually have a return policy for purchases made at Nordstrom stores or at Nordstrom.com. We handle returns on a case-by-case basis with the ultimate objective of satisfying the customer. We stand behind our goods and services and want customers to be satisfied with them. We'll always do our best to take care of customers—our philosophy is to deal with them fairly and reasonably; we hope they will be fair and reasonable with us as well."
And one more: Patagonia
Patagonia's "Ironclad Guarantee" state's the company will repair, replacement or refund unsatisfactory purchases. Damage due to wear and tear is repaired at a reasonable charge.
