Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier fan, as its name implies, combines a cooling room fan with an air purifier in one tall, sleek package. And, there's an app for that.

What is it?

Developed for iOS and Android users, the Dyson Link App allows users to remotely monitor -- and change -- the air quality inside their homes. This app also keeps track of air quality history, allowing users to note peak indoor pollution times -- during cleaning and cooking, for instance.

The purifier fan also includes a remote control for those who like to command their appliances using the old school method.

This new Dyson Pure Cool Link tower is designed with a 360-degree glass HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter, which pretty much sets the standard for air purification. A HEPA filter is designed to remove at least 99.97 percent of all particles as small as 0.3 microns. So, pesky allergens, such as mold spores, dust, animal dander and other particles too small to see with the naked eye, get trapped in the filter.

By the way, HEPA filters aren't new. They were developed by the Atomic Energy Commission to remove radioactive contaminants. The acronym was coined by a former Manhattan Project safety engineer, according to the US Department of Energy.

Why do I need it?

Air purifiers can help combat indoor pollution.

"We think it is polluted outside of our homes, but the air inside can be far worse," says founder James Dyson.

"Dyson engineers focused on developing a purifier that automatically removes ultra fine allergens, odors and pollutants from the indoor air, feeding real-time air quality data back to you."

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) lurk in many household cleaners and products ranging from cleaning supplies and disinfectants to paints and glues. Note that VOCs can exacerbate asthma. Other indoor polluters include scented candles, pet hair, wood and tobacco smoke. Not only do these tiny particles travel through the air, but they also can find their way into our lungs. It's best to remove as many of these as possible from your home, and that's where Dyson Pure Cool Link purifier fan comes into play.
