The best cheesecake in Georgia is not too far from Atlanta, according to a recent ranking from Lovefood.com.
The London-based food guide website compiled a list of the spots where U.S. residents can score the best cheesecakes around the nation. In Georgia, that title went to East Point’s Sammy Cheezecake.

The eatery, which is owned by Sammie Smith Jr., owes its top cheesecake ranking to the signature New York cheesecake that customers adore. It’s topped with strawberries and whipped cream and there’s an option to add strawberry sauce drizzled over the top.
"If you haven't tried this cheesecake then youve never had cheesecake. This place is the TRUTH! The cheesecake is so perfect it's unreal. Even the whipped cream they use as a garnish is delicious," read one enthusiastic Yelp review.
Another customer had hoped to try the shop’s red velvet cake, but opted for the strawberry cheesecake when it was sold out. Disappointment was not a factor, however.
“It was so moist and rich. I really enjoyed it. It definitely hit the spot,” the customer said in part in the review.
Sammy Cheezcake owner Smith began selling his cakes — both of the cream cheese and non-cream cheese variety — from his truck in 2006 after demand for his desserts grew enormously. Smith went from working at the Hilton Atlanta Airport following his graduation from Le Cordon Bleu in 2005 to becoming an entrepreneur.
By 2012, Smith opened Sammy Cheezecake and in addition to the strawberry edition, the shop also sells an Oreo cheesecake and a Snickers cheesecake. Cake offerings include German chocolate, red velvet and lemon.
