The Atlanta Journal-Constitution calendar is a self-service operation. To post your event:
1. Go to accessatlanta.com/getstarted and click on “register with us.” 2. Fill out the registration form. When you are done, you will be taken to the home page. 3. Click on “add a listing” in the upper right. Click on “find your event” to see if it is already in the system. If it is not, create your event, using the form provided. You will receive email notification when your event is approved. All approved events will be posted online at accessAtlanta.com. For print calendars, events are used at the discretion of the editors and as space allows.
Free Thanksgiving dinner: Through a partnership with the Atlanta Food Bank, New Mercies Christian Church will be providing families with a Thanksgiving box, which includes a turkey and side dishes starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22. As part of their outreach food program, the church aims to feed 500 families in the Gwinnett County area for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Christmas play: Beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28 through Sunday, Dec. 21, Alpharetta Presbyterian Church via their Act 1 theater group will present the play, "Dad's Christmas Miracle." The play tells the story of a young boy named Connor Murphy who desperately wants a go-cart for Christmas but believes everyone gangs up against him—including his teacher, friends, and siblings. Connor's present hinges on Dad, who will have to perform the impossible on Christmas morning. Tickets range from $12 - $25 and may be purchased online at www.act1theater.com. Nativity exhibit: For the 19th holiday season, The Episcopal Church of the Epiphany will present nativity scenes from around the world beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29 through Sunday, Dec 7. The exhibit features over 300 crèches, which range from elegant to eccentric and are sculpted in a myriad of materials such as carved wood and volcanic ash. There will also be a special exhibit of nativity scenes that highlight the differences between the birth stories as told in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew. Each of these nativities will be accompanied by scriptural quotes and hymn texts. The cost of admission is $4 - $5; free admission for children under 12 years old. Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration: As part of their special "Meet The Holidays" program, which recognizes holidays around the world, The Children's Museum of Atlanta will host an educational and festive event called "Our Lady of Guadalupe." Known as Mexico's most important holiday, people travel all across Mexico today to reach the chapel Tepayac Hill in Mexico City, where the mother of Jesus is said to have appeared before an Indian peasant named Juan Diego in 1531. To commemorate this day, fiestas are held throughout Mexico as well as Central America. The museum will celebrate with music and the making of paper roses. The weekend-long event will begin at 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13; cost of admission is $12.75 (plus tax).
