No pain, no gain … No clothes?
That’s up to you. The Fig Leaf 5K at Paradise Valley Club & Resort in Dawsonville on April 23 is open to all runners — at all levels of “participation.”
Translation: If you want to run the whole thing naked, great. But if you want to tackle the moderately hilly course in a more modest (and alas, more sweat-revealing) pedal-pushers-and-tank-top ensemble, that’s fine, too.
The clothing optional resort, which is located on 100-plus verdant acres some 45 minutes north of Atlanta, doesn't judge.
“Normally, more people run unclothed,” said Sylvia, who works in the front office. She asked to be referred to that way in keeping with the resort’s policy of respecting visitors’ confidentiality by not giving out last names. “People who are new usually wear clothes because they think it will be more comfortable. But there are some people who love to say, ‘I ran a 5K naked.’”
(Nudity is legal at American Association for Nude Recreation clubs and resorts, including Paradise Valley. This and many other topics are addressed in an excellent FAQ section located on www.paradisevalley.com).
This is the 19th annual Fig Leaf 5K and it’s in service of a good cause. All proceeds from this year’s race go to the Dawson County Humane Society. The race fee is $25 and participants don’t have to pay the usual day pass fee for visitors to the resort. The race begins at 10 a.m., with in-person registration beginning at 8 a.m.
Better yet, you can pre-register online at www.paradisevalleyclub.com (scroll down on the home page). If you do, the Paradise folks promise, your official T-shirt will be ready and waiting for you on race day.
A T-shirt?
Sigh …No judgment.
