Atlanta area food banks are gearing up for the season of giving.

Atlanta Community Food Bank, one of many charitable organizations in the area trying to make sure even the poorest among us have a happy holiday, relies on 127 employees and an army of volunteers to serve thousands of people each week.

Spokeswoman Angie Clawson said food donations are holding steady as Thanksgiving approaches.

Those needing assistance this holiday can visit ACFB.org and click on the words "Find Help" in the top right corner, said Clawson.

ACFB serves nearly 60,000 people a week through a network of more than 600 partners. During fiscal year 2012-2013, the organization distributed more than 45 million pounds of food and grocery products to partner agencies in 29 counties, said Clawson.

Those looking to help can donate money or food to ACFB or one of the many organizations on the AJC Giving Guide map.

Clawson said for every $1 donated, the ACFB puts $9.21 back into the community.

It's a busy time of year for most organizations. If your business or organization wants to help collect food, Clawson suggests volunteers pick up ACFB barrels and return them after a food drive.

ACFB's 129,000-square-feet warehouse is located at 732 Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard N.W. in West Midtown.
