Aspirin already helps to prevent heart attacks and stroke. Now doctors are looking at its effects on cancer.
In what's being considered the world's biggest clinical trial, researchers are recruiting 11,000 people who have recently had treatment for cancers, including bowel, breast and stomach cancers, the Telegraph reported.
The study will have one group taking 300mg of aspirin a day, a second will take 100mg each day and a third will get placebos.
The aim is to find out if taking the medication every day for five years can delay, or even stop, cancers that had been caught early and treated from coming back.
The study will be funded by Cancer Research UK and the National Institute for Health Research.
It will run across 100 clinics and will last up to 12 years, the BBC reported.
