The fourth annual Georgia Gives Day will kick off at 12 a.m. Thursday across the state to raise funds for the states more than 2,000 participating non-profits.
The 24-hour fundraising blitz is a chance for Georgia residents to make on-line donations to their favorite charity. Causes represent the full scope of social and cultural non-profits and include education, animal homelessness, the environment, youth development, healthcare and more.
"Each year, Georgia Gives Day highlights the important work of local nonprofits in sustaining and building our communities while also helping Georgians discover and connect with organizations that share their passions," said Karen Beavor, president and CEO of the Georgia Center for Nonprofits, which hosts the annual flash mob of giving. "Especially given the growing tenor of divisiveness in our country, we love seeing Georgians enjoy this unique opportunity to rally around not just one specific cause, but the whole nonprofit sector. We consider it a giving movement 'For the Greater Good,' this year's Georgia Gives Day theme."
Since 2012, Georgia Gives Day has garnered nearly 41,000 donations and raised more than $5.2 million. Last year alone, the event raised almost $2.3 million, and according to a survey, 9 percent of donors made their first ever donation to a nonprofit and 15 percent gave to a new nonprofit.
To inspire giving and continue this momentum, many participating nonprofits have secured matching and challenge grants that organizers say will double the impact of donations and allow individuals to “Max My Gift.”
In addition, Georgia Gives Day 2015 will once again feature competitions that award thousands of dollars in prizes to help participating nonprofits make the most of the day, including prizes for organizations receiving the “Most Donors;” “Power Hours” to reward nonprofits who receive the most donations during that time; and random “Golden Ticket” drawings that add up to $250 to individual donations.
