Running a marathon seems like such a cool idea. But, um, … do you really have to do the whole thing all at once?
Apparently not. At least not down on the Georgia coast, where the Critz Tybee Run Fest will generously allow you to spend two days completing the official 26.2 mile distance.
Surrounded by awesome beach-y scenery to boot.
Registration is now open for the “Fest,” which is scheduled for February 3-4, 2017. Yeah, that’s kind of far off, but you might need that long to: a) train and b) do all the complicated math involved in the annual event that actually comprises five races in one (Six, if you count the Kiddie Run, but that’s only open to ages 1 through 5, aka people who essentially can’t count yet).
Maybe “unique” is a better word than complicated what it all entails. Here’s how it works: The five races all cover different distances, ranging from the Basil’s 1 Mile all the way up the Chu’s Half Marathon. Throw in things like the North Beach Bar and Grill 5K, and if you complete them all, it adds up to 26.2 miles.
Of course, you don’t have run to every race. You can pick and choose among the five, all of which take place that Saturday (Feb. 4), except for the Friday night 5K, featuring complimentary glow sticks for runners and spectators. One of the most popular races is the 2.8 mile run, which takes place entirely along Tybee’s gorgeous beach.
