Talk about getting to have your cake and eat it too!

Er, make that pie. Famed humorist Roy Blount Jr. is coming home to Decatur next month to chat up his new book “Save Room for Pie.” Subtitled “Food Songs and Chewy Ruminations,” it has Blount jawing over (in a literary sense) the appeal of everything from Meat (“Yes to Gizzards”) to Plants (“Boiled Peanuts: Be Not Afraid”).

And of course, pie. Pie oh my, does the man who’s been called our era’s answer to Mark Twain love pie, considering fully half of the chapters in the “Desserts” section concern pie.

Maybe Kevin Gillespie can help figure it out.

That's right, the beloved "Top Chef" competitor and hot Atlanta restauranteur (Gunshow, Revival) will appear "in conversation with" Blount at Decatur High School at 7 p.m. on March 21st. There'll be a lot for them to chew over, considering Blount — a Decatur High School grad — has written nearly 20 incisively witty books on topics ranging from Robert E. Lee to what dogs are thinking and also is a regular panelist on NPR's "Wait, Wait … Don't Tell Me!" (Don't miss his chapter in this new book about eating a Varsity hot dog while doing the show).

And, as if a slice of culture with these two weren’t enough, the evening will also include a sampling of homemade pies from Gillespie’s Revival, located right there in Decatur.

This is a ticketed event. And you know they're going to go like hotcakes (those are kinda like pies, right Roy?). They can be purchased in advance ($28 for one person, $38 for two, with one copy of the book included in both cases) at A Cappella Books in Inman Park or at www.acappellabooks.com.
