East Cobber Parade & Festival

This event marks its 20th year celebrating the people, organizations and businesses that make their home in east Cobb. It kicks off with a parade that will depart from Mount Bethel Elementary with more 2,000 participants from 110 different groups. The festival will follow immediately after, at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. Look for arts and crafts activities, carnival games and an entertainment stage with something for the whole family. In addition, the festival offers an opportunity for civic groups, churches, synagogues and area nonprofits to raise awareness about their organizations.

A Beginner’s Guide to Twitter

Aspiring writers might be capable of composing thousands of words while cranking out the next great American novel, but often doing it in just 140 characters leaves them baffled. Sally Kilpatrick has some tips for taming the Twittersphere in her workshop, World Domination One Follower at a Time: A Beginner’s Guide to Twitter. Author of two published novels and president of the Georgia Romance Writers, Kilpatrick effectively used the social media platform to increase her own readership and book sales. Learn what to tweet, how to hashtag and the best ways to build an online fan base.

Charles Black Remembers

The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. taught only one course at Morehouse College, and Charles Black was one of his eight students. Black went on to chair the Atlanta Student Movement and organized efforts to desegregate lunch counters and theaters. He also led major voter registration efforts during the civil rights era. Now an actor, he will share his firsthand experiences during a free talk. Registration online or in person at Forsyth County libraries is recommended.
