Diana Nyad is about to resurface in Atlanta.
The famed marathon swimmer and onetime Emory University undergrad hits town on September 8 to discuss her memoir, "Find a Way: The Inspiring Story of One Woman's Pursuit of a Lifelong Dream," now out in paperback. The appearance, hosted by the Georgia Center for the Book, follows Nyad's spirited talk here last November when she'd just released the fascinating book covering her life's highs (most notably, the epic Cuba-to-Florida swim she completed in 2013) and lows (she wrote frankly about being sexually abused by a coach when she was a teenager in Florida).
One thing that’s the opposite of a deep dive in “Find a Way”: Emory, where the 66-year-old Nyad enrolled as a freshman in 1967, gets only one paragraph in the book.
The AJC dug into Nyad's time at the Atlanta university (which ended when she was expelled for parachuting out of a fourth floor dorm window) around the time of her Cuba swim. It's an occasionally hilarious, slightly heartbreaking tale, which you can read here.
