A trio of 20th anniversary events is making our city a better place.
Fernbank Museum of Natural History’s Artemis Guild plans the 20th annual “Lost Oasis” fundraiser at 8 p.m. June 14 at the museum, 767 Clifton Road N.E., Atlanta. The South Pacific-themed event will feature an open bar with specialty cocktails, cuisine, a silent auction, prize drawing and dancing. Attire is “cocktail tropical.”
The event, which supports children's programming at Fernbank Museum, honors longtime Fernbank supporters Lesley and Trey Wainwright, who have served on the Artemis Board and who chaired "Lost Oasis" in 2010. Lesley Wainwright currently serves on Fernbank's Corporate Leadership Council.
“I’m so glad that I have been able to continually contribute to the success of the amazing programs that Fernbank offers our community,” she said. “‘Lost Oasis’ has always been a wonderful benefit that allows everyone to support a great cause while having a great time.”
Event co-chairs are Amber and Frank Heery and Emily and Robert Shuman. Individual tickets are $100 and patron levels begin at $300 per couple. Tickets are available at 501auctions.com/Fernbank or by calling 404-929-6404. Directions and other information can be found at fernbankmuseum.org.
The 20th annual Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Golf Classic, held recently at Cherokee Town and Country Club, raised more than $162,000. Since the first tournament in 1994, the annual event has raised more than $1.7 million. Proceeds support the two Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses, which provide a home away from home for families with ill and injured children who must travel here for medical treatment.
"We are grateful for the generosity of the sponsors and individuals who contributed to the success of the Golf Classic this year," said event chairman Tony Raffa. "We were able to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Golf Classic, raise valuable funds for the two houses, and introduce new supporters to the charity."
Coming up, the 20th annual Legacy Awards Gala, benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, is planned for Sept. 13 at the St. Regis. Chaired by Susan and James Hannan with The Weather Channel personality Sam Champion as emcee, the event honors Billi and Bernie Marcus. Watch for updates at www.bbbsatl.org.
