Metro Atlanta's attractions and museums eternally tout the benefits of annual membership, but this month there are some additional ones.

Billing the promotion as "SWAPtember," 14 institutions in Atlanta and close-by towns have united to offer members of any one of them discounted admission ($3 off) and membership breaks at all the others.

The participating attractions (in Atlanta, except where noted) are: Atlanta Botanical Garden; Atlanta Contemporary Art Center; Atlanta History Center/Margaret Mitchell House; Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville; Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain; Center for Puppetry Arts; Fernbank Museum of Natural History; Georgia Aquarium; High Museum of Art; Imagine It! The Children's Museum of Atlanta; Emory University's Michael C. Carlos Museum; Museum of Design Atlanta; Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville; and Zoo Atlanta.

The promotion marks unprecedented cooperation among sometime-competitors for locals and tourists, in hopes of increasing visitation and membership bases. The membership discounts vary from 10 percent to 25 percent or $10 to $20 off. The deal also includes 10 percent off in gift shops.

The offer ends with September, but could a SAVEtoberfest be far behind?
