WellStar Health System said Thursday that it had eliminated 29 jobs, citing uncertainty in the health care industry.
David Anderson, executive vice president, human resources, said in a statement: “The health care industry is going through unprecedented changes. There is uncertainty around every corner.
“In 2013, the U.S. government began cutting $113 billion from hospital payments over the next 10 years with $400 billion additional cuts under discussion. As a not-for-profit health system, we face an extraordinary challenge to plan for the future without knowing the payment mechanisms. With the future in mind, WellStar has been forced to make many difficult decisions. Some of those decisions address staffing issues.”
WellStar said 11 of the jobs cut were officer positions. WellStar has more than 13,000 employees.
