KFC, hoping to recreate the success it has had with Nashville Hot, is testing a new line of fried chicken dubbed “Georgia Gold Honey Mustard BBQ.”

But guess who doesn’t get to take part in the test: Georgia.

What gives?

The company told Business Insider that the chicken dish, which will also be available as tenders, is being tested in Pittsburgh and Mobile, Ala. KFC chose the two cities because it wanted feedback from Northerners and Southerners. (Perhaps we can lend company officials a map).

“Georgia Gold” draws from barbecue traditions in Georgia and parts of South Carolina and would be familiar to anyone who has dipped fried chicken in honey-mustard sauce, according to Business Insider. The honey sweetness, however, is a tad muted, the news site said.

KFC said the tests runs through Sept. 4 at which time the chain may decide whether to take the product national and give Georgians a chance to decide if it lives up to its name.

UPDATE:

In a statement, KFC said Georgia was not chosen for the test because “Georgians are already familiar with the flavor profile of a honey mustard BBQ sauce.

“When we test new menu items, we select cities that will help us understand how our guests across the entire country will respond,” a representative for the company said. “Mobile is representing the US cities that know and love southern BBQ flavors, and Pittsburgh represents our customers with a northern flavor profile. Each city’s response will help us determine if Georgia Gold will make it onto the menu across the nation.”
