“Flo,” the chipper Progressive Insurance employee with the retro hairstyle and heavy makeup in TV ads, will have to make room for hundreds more co-workers.

Progressive said Friday it will hire for more than 900 openings in nine states, including Georgia, in the months ahead. The exact number of Georgia hires was not immediately available.

Openings include IT, call center, analyst, legal, claims and corporate positions. The Mayfield Village, Ohio-based company said it offers paid training and flexible work arrangements, including working from home and compressed workweeks.

Many insurers are hiring to prepare for key provisions of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare, as they kick in.

Last month, State Farm held job fairs in Atlanta to fill up to 800 openings by the end of the year. The positions were mostly entry-level in claims, service and sales support functions. Other professional/technical level positions also were available.

More information on the Progressive openings is available at http://jobs.progressive.com.
