More than 2,300 companies were nominated or asked to participate in the 2018 Top Workplaces contest by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and its partner, Energage (formerly Workplace Dynamics).

Employees across the metro area responded to print and online solicitations that began appearing in September. Using survey results, a list of 150 workplaces was compiled, consisting of 25 large companies (listed below; 500 or more employees), 50 midsize companies (150-499 employees) and 75 small companies (149 or fewer employees).

2. The Schenck School

The Schenck School is in the top 10 for the second year and has been ranked on the list for six years. The private Atlanta school was founded in 1959 by David Schenck and now has 87 employees. Using the Orton-Gillingham Approach, the school teaches dyslexic students how to read, write and overcome learning differences before returning to a traditional school. Employees describe their jobs as fulfilling, humbling and serving a greater purpose. Its benefits have four components that the company says promote the well-being of employees and their families: health insurance, supplemental insurance, tuition reimbursement and retirement.

3. Insight Sourcing Group

Insight Sourcing Group, a Norcross management consulting firm, has ranked in the top five for four consecutive years and was the 2015 top-ranked small company. The private company, founded in 2002, has 112 employees. Its sabbatical program encourages long-term employment by giving employees of 10 or more years a one-month paid sabbatical to unplug. Company outings include a field day at the CEO’s house and a renting out a theater for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Its nonprofit, Witness to War, conducts interviews with combat veterans that are used for educational purposes, and its quarterly service events have included assisting the Veterans Empowerment Organization.

4. Client Command

Client Command, an automotive marketing company for car dealerships, is in the top five for its first year on the list. The private Cumming company, founded in 1999, has 67 employees. Employees gather for seasonal and quarterly events, such as a recent roller-skate-themed party for meeting goals where employees were rewarded with an iPad, Apple Watch or Garmin watch. Medical, dental and vision benefits are fully covered for employees (additional family members have a reduced cost). Client Command also provides flexible schedules and remote work options. Employees receive tools to excel as well as career and leadership development through opportunities such as LinkedIn Learning, Cardone University and the Catalytic Coaching program. Service opportunities include an annual trip to Haiti through the nonprofit organization myLIFEspeaks.

5. Cumberland Group

Cumberland Group, a private technology consulting company, is in the top five for its first year on the list. The Atlanta firm was founded in 2014 and has grown from 35 to 55 employees in the last year. Paid time off, flexible work hours and telecommuting options are available for employees. Office perks include unlimited snacks and soft drinks. Employees say they appreciate the autonomy and support. Cumberland Group’s values highlight integrity, hard work and continuous improvement professionally and personally.
