The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed a $425,000 fine against Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. , saying the Savannah-based aerospace manufacturer did not comply with certain regulations for aircraft mechanic training.
Based on inspections in 2009 and 2010, the FAA said an inspection determined some mechanics did not complete required training in time according to an FAA-approved training manual, and missed training deadlines. The FAA also said inspectors could not determine whether records were inaccurate and whether some employees completed training.
The agency alleged Gulfstream allowed mechanics to maintain planes when they had not completed required training, and alleges the violations compromised safety.
Gulfstream said the events “were largely administrative in nature,” that there was no related safety of flight issue surrounding these circumstances and that all maintenance was performed properly. Gulfstream also said it is cooperating with the FAA to “enhance our training and operational procedures.”
