3 places to find a mentor in metro Atlanta's business community

When you're kick-starting your career, finding someone to help you advance can be difficult. Fortunately, these three organizations in the metro Atlanta area provide mentors who are up to the task.

SCORE Atlanta

SCORE is a national nonprofit association supported by the United States Small Business Administration (SBA). The association has a long history of mentoring, spanning over 50 years. Its goal is to assist small business owners, helping them with everything from getting businesses off the ground to providing education and mentorship. The Atlanta chapter of SCORE teaches workshops and offers face-to-face and one-on-one mentoring from ts volunteers at various locations around the metro Atlanta area. It also hosts workshops and offers online help any time.

The Entrepreneurship Center

The Entrepreneurship Center is a national program that is sponsored in Atlanta by the Atlanta Urban League. Its purpose is to encourage entrepreneurship in urban areas with an emphasis on assisting minority entrepreneurs. The Entrepreneurship Center provides an Entrepreneurship Business Mentor Program that works with high-potential minority entrepreneurs. The mentors provide one-on-one coaching that is designed to help entrepreneurs meet their goals. Although the program will assist all types of entrepreneurs and businesses from micro to large, the main focus of the coaching program is to assist the owners of small and medium-sized companies that have the greatest potential in terms of creating jobs and urban economic development.

Atlanta GLOW

Atlanta GLOW (Growing Leadership of Women) describes itself as a faith-based Christian organization that teaches young, low-income women skills in management and leadership. The organization provides mentorship to young women in Atlanta who are between the ages of 16 and 25 and live in low to moderate income communities. The organization is 100 percent volunteer based and provides a free six-month mentoring program that pairs low-income women with mentors who are established female business leaders or business owners in the Atlanta community.
