Powder Springs officials have announced their new partnership with CobbWorks to provide three workforce development programs for job seekers as young as 16.
CobbWorks is Cobb County's one-stop shop for employers and job seekers, offering work experience programs, job training and development.
This partnership will provide adult and teen job assistance, a Work Experience Sites (WES) program and a summer Youth Work Experience (WEX) program.
Mayor Al Thurman said, "The city is looking forward to establishing a strong CobbWorks presence here. Our local youth and community will benefit from the assistance provided by these programs."
The free job assistance for adults and teens, ages 16 and above, will be available on the last Wednesday of each month when they will have access to CobbWorks staff and resources for assistance in their job search.
The first session will be 1 to 4 p.m. March 30 in the Community Development conference room, 4488 Pineview Drive.
In addition to job-seeking assistance, Powder Springs will assist CobbWorks in locating Adult Work Experience Sites (WES) within the city.
The WES program is a new federally funded program that subsidizes businesses willing to provide on-the-job training for program participants who are working on their GED.
The program, lasting about four weeks, is a beneficial way to introduce candidates into the workforce or a particular industry.
The third partnership program is the Youth Summer Work Experience (WEX) program.
CobbWorks and the city will co-host an Intake and Eligibility session to inform and recruit local teens who are seeking assistance with summer job placement and then help them find those jobs.
The session will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 6 at the Ford Center, 4181 Atlanta St. behind the Powder Springs Library.
Also, the city will host a Youth Summer Work Experience Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 10 at the Cultural Arts Center, 4181 Atlanta St., also behind the library.
Powder Springs businesses are invited to participate in the Adult Work Experience Site or the Youth Summer Work Experience programs by contacting the city's Economic Development Director Stephanie Aylworth at 770-943-1666 ext. 345 or saylworth@cityofpowdersprings.org.
