A retail shopping center that broke ground in the Emory area in July is 60 percent leased.

Emory Point, which developers have touted as the largest new development inside I-285 since 2007, is a $100 million mixed-use project with 80,000 square feet of retail space and 443 luxury apartments. It is on track to open in the fall of 2012, said Mike Cohn, executive vice president of Cousins Properties.

Retailers that have already been announced include CVS, Jos. A. Bank, Marlow's Tavern, Which Wich, Solar Dimensions and Carriage Cleaners. Cohn said Cousins is trying to establish a combination of local and national brands and that he is "thrilled" with the mix.

"We've proven what we thought, that the Emory area is under-served," he said.

The project, on Clifton Road across from the main campus of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, should provide 750 new jobs. It will be built in three phases by Cousins and Gables Residential.

Cohn said the mix will be 30 percent restaurant and 30 percent apparel and boutique. The rest of the retail space will be filled with CVS and destination services, like a dry cleaner. He said demand for the apartments has also been strong; nearly 200 have already been spoken for.

At the groundbreaking,  Cousins president and CEO Larry Gellerstedt said the 15-acre site will be the first new retail project in the area in 20 years.
