Atlanta-based Mother Nature Network announced it has agreed to merge with TreeHugger in a deal that joins what the companies call the two most visited websites in the world for environmental news and information.

Together, the websites have more than 7 million monthly visitors and a user base that spans 200 countries.

“This merger goes beyond simply having a bigger audience, it’s about having a much bigger opportunity,” said Joel Babbit, co-founder and CEO of Mother Nature Network and CEO of the combined entity.

JB Perrette, chief digital officer of Discovery Communications, which acquired TreeHugger in 2007, called the two companies “the unequivocal digital leaders in the eco-lifestyle space.”

TreeHugger is billed as an “all-inclusive resource for green news, solutions and product information.”

Mother Nature Network, started in 2009, covers a wide range of responsible living topics. Babbit, a former advertising executive, co-founded Mother Nature Network with Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell.
