Atlanta-based airport concessionaire Hojeij Branded Foods said it is acquiring wine bar chain Vino Volo, which has locations in airports around the country.
San Francisco-based Vino Volo, founded by CEO Doug Tomlinson in 2004, has more than 40 locations around the country offering wine tastings and small plates. Tomlinson will be retained as president of Vino Volo as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hojeij Branded Foods.
It’s the first acquisition for Hojeij Branded Foods, which said it made the acquisition to grow. Vino Volo is in airports where Hojeij isn’t, and vice-versa, according to the company.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Hojeij started out in 1993 as a business run by husband and wife Wassim and Kathy Hojeij delivering donuts to Hartsfield-Jackson. It has grown significantly since that time, and five years ago won a a large contract for restaurants at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
Hojeij Branded Foods now has more than 70 restaurants and bars at 14 airports around the country.
“We would love for Vino Volo to have a presence in Hartsfield-Jackson someday,” the company said in an e-mailed statement.
