It's got Ben "new Batman" Affleck, the director of "Fight Club," and Tyler Perry. The movie version of the best-selling book "Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn seems on paper like a bit of a hodgepodge. And yet -- it's been getting almost universally positive reviews, with an 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, and box office projections are already good, with The Hollywood Reporter saying advance ticket sales are already on par with the Sandra Bullock film "Gravity," which raked in $55.8 million in its opening weekend. The book has sold millions of copies and I have a dollar for you if you you can point to a book club that hasn't read it.

As a huge fan of the book, I'll admit I was a little worried about how the film would turn out -- I mean, Affleck? Perry? Really? Turns out there's a reason I'm not a casting director -- the movie was perfectly cast. Affleck and Rosamund Pike in particular turned in haunting performances, but it was the supporting actors -- including Carrie Coon as Nick Dunne's sister Margo, Kim Dickens as a hardboiled detective and, yes, Perry as a defense attorney -- really brought the whole thing home. Also, can Trent Reznor do all the soundtracks for all the movies, ever?
