Gov. Nathan Deal and his former Democratic challenger Jason Carter will sit in the same section at President Obama's speech at Georgia Tech.

Both steered well clear of Obama during last year's presidential election. For Deal, a Republican, his no-shows at Obama's events came as little surprise. But Carter faced more scrutiny when he didn't appear with Obama when the president arrived in Atlanta to talk about his administration's plans to halt the spread of Ebola.

The end of the election means there's little risk for either of them to be seen with POTUS.
