A blown transformer prompted officials late Wednesday morning to evacuate Buford's Twin Rivers Middle School.

Gwinnett County fire spokesman Tommy Rutledge told Channel 2 Action News authorities learned of the incident about 11:20 a.m.

"This is an blown electrical transformer in front of the school and not an actual school fire," he said in an emailed statement. "The fire is out and we have notified the power company. All fire equipment returning except the first-due apparatus. The building was temporarily evacuated."

Jackson EMC is on the scene, he told the station.

Twin Rivers is without power. The school is at 2300 Braselton Hwy.
