GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Shane Queen, North Cobb
1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach? "Probably beating Valdosta in 2012 in the first round of the playoffs. No, I tell you, I'll say beating Mill Creek that year when we were down 21-7 in the quarterfinals. We came back and beat a very talented team in the second half. We had a good senior class, and to see them rally and how they fought to overcome adversity to win was special." [The 42-14 victory over Valdosta marked North Cobb's first state-playoff victory since 1979. The 42-35 win over Mill Creek advanced North Cobb to the semifinals for the first time since 1959.]
2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why? "I would say Matt Dickmann at Harrison. He's just a godly man and he does right by his players, and I want my son to play for a strong role model, and that's what he is. What he's done to turn them around, I've been very impressed." [Queen's son, Tyler, played for Queen and is a sophomore quarterback at Auburn. North Cobb's only loss this season was to Harrison on Sept. 2.]
3. What is your pet peeve as a coach or favorite saying/motto? "I just talk to our kids about winning the day. I want them to get the most out of every day and do all they can to make the program and school and community better."
4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed? "That's easy. The transfer stuff. We've turned into AAU basketball a little bit with kids coming and going. I wish we could go back to developing players and coming up through a program. When a guy is in a program for three years and then goes to your rival the next year, that's tough. We've gotten away from what's made high school sports so special."
