GHSF Daily asked Georgia head coaches to answer these four questions. We'll report from a different head coach each day.
Mark Myers, Dutchtown
1. What is the most memorable game you've been a part of as a player or coach?"The most memorable game I have been a part of as a coach was our win last year at Lovejoy. As a second-year head coach at the time, I won a few games, but this was a game that opened up our players' eyes and let them know that we will have a chance to win some big-time games against big-time teams. It helped me to win my first-ever Fox 5 team of the week as a head coach, among some other awards. It was probably the biggest on-the-field highlight during my tenure so far." [Dutchtown won 20-14 after losing to Lovejoy 41-14 the previous season.]
2. Which high school coach would you want your son to play for, and why?"My defensive line coach, Shakorr Bryant. He is a coach that has a way of showing our players tough love but letting them know that he cares for them. He coaches for the right reasons, and I have seen him get the most out of players that I thought may not ever touch the field as a starter. The players love to play for him and will run through a brick wall for this man. He just has a unique way to develop the talent he is given."
3. What is your favorite saying/motto?"I have a saying that I took from McEachern head coach Kyle Hockman when I was an assistant there. I tell my coaches all the time that when players aren't doing what they have been told to do, 'We are either coaching it or allowing it to happen.'"
4. Which GHSA policy or high school football rule would you most like to see changed?"I think I would like to just see something done about all the transferring. It has really gotten out of hand here in Georgia to the point where it has become the norm and turning into a big circus."
