Walter Banks, the Atlanta Braves' longest serving usher from Jennifer Brett on Vimeo.
The Braves pack up after today's game, leaving Turner Field and the ghost of its predecessor, Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, behind. Walter Banks, the team's longest serving usher, has been there for the Braves' entire tenure in Atlanta. Among his trove of memorabilia: his first paycheck, stroked on April 15, 1965, for $9.77.
I saw Walter this week when the Braves had six more games to go at Turner Field, and visited his section, 107, to say hello. His team moves to Cobb County next season. At 77, he doesn't like to drive at night. He'd like to follow the team to its new stadium, if he can figure out how to get there.
Earlier this year Walter shared his extraordinary story. Today seems like a good day to share it again. Click here to read the Personal Journey feature on Walter Banks: An Usher For the Ages .
