Hendon's Atlanta-based commercial real estate company has overseen the development of 6 million square feet of retail space over the years, and he retains a strong love of both music along with moving dirt and creating shopping centers.
The Hendon brand is known throughout the commercial real estate industry for the live concert event held during the annual shopping center trade convention each year. "Hendon Rocks" began in 1985 at the International Council of Shopping Centers convention in Las Vegas.
A huge music buff, Hendon was bored with the typical vendor cocktail party and decided to hold his soiree at the then-newly opened Hard Rock Hotel in Vegas. "Hendon Rocks" was born.
Today two of Hendon's three sons are musicians, writers and producers and he considers himself "musically inclined."He and Elton John met in the 1990s and he has supported the charity for years. The gala event was held in New York.
Hosted by CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, the gala featurde a live performance. Other honorees included New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo along with Jay Joplin and Nathalie and Pablo Salame.
