Tuesday is shaping up to be “the best day of the week” for metro Atlanta, at least as far as weather is concerned.
According to Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan, it will be the driest day this week, and while humidity will still be noticeable, it will be pretty comfortable outside. Temperatures are starting in the upper 60s in Atlanta and should top out at 89 degrees this afternoon.
Monahan is calling for a slight 20% chance of a shower or storm Tuesday.
“Leave the umbrella at home today,” he said. “For a lot of us, it’s going to be a little drier today. Just don’t forget where you put it, because you are going to need it tomorrow.”
The cold front that provided a scattering of rain and storms Monday has moved on to the south, Monahan said, setting up Tuesday for a mix of clouds and sunshine. There could be some areas of fog around for the morning drive.
The same front will eventually stall out across Middle Georgia and send more rain this way, Monahan said.
Starting Wednesday, periods of rain return to the forecast. With a 40% chance of a shower or storm, neither Wednesday nor Thursday will be washouts, he said. Rain chances increase to about 60% for Friday.
“I think we’ll especially favor areas south of I-20, at least through Wednesday and Thursday, with some scattered showers and storms,” he said.
As the rain chances increase, temperatures will come down. There is a chance some areas of North Georgia could see highs in the 70s by the end of the week, according to the latest forecast.
