Although the online dating websites and apps are seeing an increase in activity this time of year, some people make connections with other social media platforms. A friend of mine had someone ask her out on Yelp and another friend has been flirting with a guy on Instagram.

It can be a little different in that there is some familiarity if you have been following one another. This can be a little dangerous though, a false sense of security is not helpful when you are basically getting to know a stranger. You should use the same precautions as you would if you met someone on the street or at a bar.

Have you ever asked someone out that you met through a blog or on Twitter? Are you open to dating someone who you met through a non-dating website or social media platform
