This being September, Dr. Emily Dodwell, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery, says its the perfect time for parent to begin scheduling their child's wellness visits. Dodwell sees patients with a wide variety of orthopedic issues, and warns parents to be watchful, especially for sports or overuse injuries that can lead to other problems down the road.
For starters, she suggests parents get answers to following questions:
•How can I avoid sports injuries or overuse injuries in my child?
•If there has been a recent injury, are any sports or activities that are out of the question?
•How heavy should my child's backpack be?
•At what age should I especially look out for scoliosis?
If you have others, please share.
