Isolated showers are possible after sunset Tuesday through Wednesday, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said. There is a 20 percent rain chance Tuesday and a 40 percent chance Wednesday.
Earlier, unseasonably warm weather pushed pollen levels in metro Atlanta past 1,200 on Monday — the highest they’ve been since March 2016.
“The pollen is running about a month ahead of schedule,” Nitz said.
Monday’s count was 1,289 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air, according to Atlanta Allergy and Asthma. The count was the highest for February, Channel 2 reported.
While far short of last year’s season high of 4,107 particles of pollen per cubic meter of air, the number is significant.
The pollen count this time last year was closer to 60, according to Channel 2.
The first time the pollen count surpassed 1,000 was March 17 in 2016, March 18 in 2015 and April 3 in 2014, Nitz said.
“And of course when the rain gets here, it will help wash away some of the pollen,” Nitz said. “So we have that to look forward to.”
Rain isn’t expected to return again until Friday.
Temps were 67 degrees in Atlanta and 58 in Griffin and Blairsville before 8:45 p.m.
The record high for this day, set in 1986, is 78 degrees.
