Metro Atlanta had a mild, cloudy afternoon Wednesday, but expect rain to move in overnight.

A 90 percent chance of rain is forecast for Thursday, according to Channel 2 Action News. Meteorologist Brad Nitz said showers could be isolated strong or severe storms.

Temperatures were 60 degrees in Atlanta, 43 in Blairsville and 58 in Griffin just before 8:30 p.m., according to Channel 2 Action News.

Highs are expected only to reach 50 degrees on Thursday and 47 on Friday.

The northeast Georgia mountains could even get cold enough for some snowflakes on New Year’s Eve.

North Georgia could see between 30 and 40 mph wind gusts.
