A passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight to Beijing allegedly assaulted a crew member, prompting the plane to return to the Seattle airport Thursday night.
Atlanta-based Delta called it a "security incident with a passenger" on Flight 129 from Seattle to Beijing, and said the passenger was restrained on-board.
The 23-year-old male from Florida was removed from the plane at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday night and arrested for the alleged assault of the crew member, according to the FBI.
The Seattle Times reported that the man, identified as Joseph Daniel Hudek IV, tried to open an exit door and assaulted two flight attendants and a passenger, according to a criminal complaint.
The complaint alleges a flight attendant broke at least one wine bottle over the man's head, according to the Seattle Times -- which added that the Port of Seattle, citing the FBI, said there was no suggestion of a national security threat.
The man was transferred to federal detention, according to the FBI. Port of Seattle police and the FBI interviewed passengers, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection was also involved in responding to the incident.
Delta said its flight departed for Beijing later Thursday evening.
