In a sign of a growing rift between Republicans and Silicon Valley, Apple has told GOP leaders that they will not be providing technology or support of any kind to their July convention. Politico reports that Facebook, Google and Microsoft have said they will provide some support.
Facebook is having its annual shareholder's meeting today, Recode reports, and that means a vote on whether to keep Peter Thiel on Facebook's board of directors.
Zuckerberg owns 60 percent of Facebook shares. Thiel recently confirmed he is the backer of the Hulk Hogan lawsuit against media company Gawker. But Recode explains it is unlikely that Thiel will be voted off the board.
In Europe, some emergency workers are learning how to use drones to save lives, reports the New York Times.
Emergency workers gathered in Copenhagen to start a six-month trial that amounts to "the world's largest and most widespread experiment with unmanned aircraft," the Times reports. Four teams from Britain, Denmark, Iceland and Ireland are taking part. The drones they are learnign to use are equipped with thermal imaging cameras.
The Wall Street Journal has a fascinating look at whether a future of self-driving cars also means more suburban sprawl. The Journal says nearly everyone who has studied the subject believes that self-driving cars will be "significantly" cheaper than owning a car, allowing people to spend more on housing that is further out and escape a torturous commute thanks to autonomous driving.
