Pranksters have taken “Going Green” to a new level at an Ohio high school.
No one as yet has claimed responsibility, but someone or a group of people planted a tree in the middle of the Franklin High School baseball infield last weekend.
A 25-foot tall tree between the pitcher’s mound and home plate greeted players who arrived for a doubleheader Saturday morning at Franklin Community Park.
Franklin sophomore baseball player Evan Margerum took the photo that has made its way around Deadspin.com, Bleacherreport.com and Maxpreps.com.
Michael Sander, Franklin School District Superintendent, said Tuesday the school administration is working to try and figure out who was behind the prank.
“I understand senior pranks,” he said, but vandalism or criminal damaging cannot be condoned or tolerated.
Sander said the city paid for the removal of the tree and repair of the section of the field between the mound and home plate.
“If we can find out who did it, they’ll get the bill,” he said.
Sander said no one seemed to know what type of tree was planted. He said in his 31 years in education, he’s never seen anything quite like it.
Once the tree was removed by city park workers, Franklin swept Dixie.
