McEachern beat No. 1. Now, McEachern is No. 1.

The Indians of Powder Springs are the new top team in the Class AAAAA high school football rankings after a 20-13 victory over previous No. 1 Lowndes in Valdosta. McEachern became the first team since 2003 to beat Lowndes --  a four-time state champion since 1999 --  in consecutive seasons.

McEachern is the first Cobb County team ranked No. 1 since North Cobb in 2007 and second since 1998, the last time McEachern was No. 1.

McEachern also has beaten two reigning region champions this season. The other was North Gwinnett, ranked No. 7.

There are five new teams in the rankings: Norcross (AAAAA), Lambert and Banneker (AAAA), Washington County (AAA) and Marion County (A).  Out are Collins Hill (AAAAA), Clarke Central and Chattahoochee (AAAA), Eastside (AAA) and Darlington (A).
