MATT RYAN, quarterback

What happened to the offense today?

“It was ugly. Obviously, Carolina is a very good football team and they have been playing extremely well all year. They played extremely well today and we did not. We played very poorly across the board, and we’ve got to find a way to improve and get better, and we need to do that immediately.”

Did they blitz more than you anticipated, or you all just didn’t handle it well?

“Obviously they have shown pressure throughout the year. They do a great job in terms of pressure and in terms of just a four and five-man rush. They put a lot of pressure on you in terms of pass protection, and I thought they did a really nice job today.”

Coach Quinn said this was unacceptable. What does that word mean to you?

“From an offensive standpoint, when you score zero points, clearly we aren’t doing our job, and we are not doing it well at all. So to me it means we have to find a way to be better, and we’ve got to find a way to get the ball into the end zone. And we need to do that now.”

O’BRIEN SCHOFIELD, linebacker

On today’s game

“That’s not us. What we put out there, how we started the game, it’s not who we are as a football team. Personally I’m just a little bit embarrassed because we owe our head coach, we owe our coaches, we owe our organization, we owe our fans, we owe each other more than that. It’s going to be a tough, tough game to watch on film but we’ve got to make our corrections. Tough times don’t last, tough people do, and this is a serious check. We are going to see who we are and we are going to go from there.”

On the lack of discipline and penalties

“I’m not going to say lack of discipline. I’ve got my own personal reasons for that but we didn’t keep our poise like we should in certain situations and penalties are always going to kill a drive defensively (and) offensively. Those are definitely things we need to clean up. We fcan’t beat ourselves.

“They came out on fire. You can obviously see why they are undefeated. They came and they played their game.”

DESMOND TRUFANT, cornerback

“Overall we just didn’t play up to our standard at all. That’s not like us to give up explosive plays like that, run and pass. Then we just got in a hole, they had the momentum. Tip your hat off to them but we definitely didn’t play like we were capable of.

On Cam Newton

“He was on. They was on in all phases, honestly. Offense, defense and special teams. They just beat us today. I really can’t say much more than that.”

ANDY LEVITRE, left guard

On if it was frustrating to have plays called back by penalties

“I don’t know if it was a lack of focus. It was definitely a lack of execution.

“You play like that, it is embarrassing. No matter if you are playing against a team that is undefeated or a team that doesn’t have the record they have. It’s unacceptable. It’s unacceptable for us the way we came out and played.”

On if the offense lacks continuity

“It’s just lack of execution. Early on this year we had a lot of guys doing the right things. Now we are having too (many) breakdowns.”

RYAN SCHRAEDER, right tackle

On if expected Panthers to bring a lot of pressure

“I think so. We talked about it during the week. I couldn’t tell you exactly how much pressure they brought until I watch the film. I felt at times we picked it up, at times we didn’t. It was just one of those days.”

On offense regressing since 5-0 start

“I can’t put a finger on it. It’s kind of hard to pinpoint because at times we look good. It’s inconsistency. It comes down to execution.”

RODDY WHITE, wide receiver

On the offense

“Man, I don’t know. We’ve got to go back to the drawing. We have to go back and look at everything that we are doing. Playing hard just (is not) enough. We have to do more.”

Where has the offense gone?

“They did a good job of just blitzing us. They came right after us and played man on the backside. We didn’t get it down. We didn’t get the ball in people’s hands to move the chains. It looked terrible. It looked bad. It looked like bad football.”

JAKE MATTHEWS, left tackle

On the game

“What else can we say? They kicked out ass.”
